Taking Care of Your Flagpole

Regular maintenance and taking care of your flagpole not only preserves the beauty of your flagpole but also extends its life—ensuring it stands tall and proud for years to come.

Check your halyard often

Replace your halyard if it shows signs of fraying. This helps you avoid a costly replacement.

Cleaning your flagpole

Using a mild water/bleach solution removes most dirt and dust buildup on your flagpole. Avoid using a high-pressure washer.

Scrub marks, grass stains, etc., can often be removed with a Magic® Eraser-type pad. Your pole can be polished with a non-abrasive cleaning compound safe for fiberglass. Never use sandpaper or abrasives on the finish.

Snaps should be checked regularly

Keeping your snaps and covers in great shape protects the finish of your flagpole. Replace snaps or covers when needed.

Tightly wrap the halyard around the pole to prevent the snaps from banging against the finish.

Protecting the Finish

The pole’s surface uses a polyaspartic aliphatic polyurea coating—similar to automotive paint—so it will remain beautiful for years. However, if you wish to further protect that surface, you can apply a ceramic coating spray in the spring and fall. This will provide additional gloss and a smooth, “slippery” feel.
