YARMOUTH PORT — An American flag flew from a 25-foot-tall white fiberglass flagpole at Liberty Hill Inn on Wednesday. Greg Richardson stood beneath it, dwarfed by the symbol and its size and beauty.

“It makes me smile every time it blows in the wind,” Richardson said.

It was Richardson who sold the flagpole and flag to the inn’s co-owner, John Hunt. The previous wooden flagpole required a lot of maintenance. It needed periodic painting. Bolts that held the pole in place rusted over time, so that Hunt couldn’t lower the pole for maintenance. He wanted an easy-to-care-for flagpole that could withstand the wind and weather.

Hunt called Richardson, who owns Boathouse Flag and Flagpole in Dennis. They started talking, and one thing led to another.
